Through the eyes of John Baselmans

My wife and I love dogs and at this moment we have 21 dogs in our 5 acres garden..
They playing and are for me an sign of joy.
Every day if they sitting around me I ask them "Let we change. You human I'm a dog"
Big, thick, small, tiny,giants they playing together.
I will make around 15 drawings of different dogs.
I hope you will enjoy this "dogtrip" and questions are always welcome.

Drawing dog 1 "my wife with Speedy"

   Drawing no 1

   The first setup.
   As you know the first lines 
   with pencil.

   The dimension is 25 X 20 cm
   Paper is Shulerhammer R4
   This is our oldest dog "Speedy" 
   with my wife.

   Stage 2

   De important lines made with 
   pen and ink.
   These will be my guidelines.

   Stage 3

   The first set up with pastel.
   This is my underground of 
   the drawing.
   Very important because this
   are the principal colors.

   As you see dark and light parts
   are added.

   Stage 4

   I ad more details in the person. 
   With color pencil I made 
   different shades. 
   With my different black pencils
   I made the harder parts.

   Stage 5

   With color pencil I made more 
   shades. 
   More details are added.
   Later I will make the final ink 
   lines.

   Stage 6

   The first colors of the dog.

   Stage 7

   Speedy the dog get the first 
   darker lines.
   With different brown color 
   pencils I give the first depth.

   Stage 8

   With color and black pencil 
   I make the details.
   With a surgery knife I made 
   small light parts.

   Stage 9 (last stage)

   I make the background of the 
   drawing.
   Also small adjustment I made 
   to get all the parts of the 
   drawing the final look.

Final conclusion
Drawing a dog is a long time ago for me.
But still it's for me my favorite object.
I Promise you will see a lot more new drawings of dogs.

Drawing dog 2 "My wife with Spooky sleeping together.

Spooky 
A big dog who 
If she find a way to come in our 
house sleeping with my wife.

  Stage 2 
  As you know the ink lines.
  Don't make these lines to thick.
  Maybe later they will come on 
  places you don't want them.

  Stage 3
  My lovely part.
  Put the first shades and colors
  on paper,
  These are important!

   Stage 4
   Making the details.
   Hair is made with small thin 
   pencil lines and a surgeon 
   knife.

    Stage 5
    The eyes.
    Most important object in the 
    drawing. I took a lot of time to 
    get her typical look.

   Stage 6
   The first color is made of my 
   wife's skin
   With the eraser I made some light
   parts in the skin.


Stage 7 The darker lines I make with color pencil and with different black pencils.	Final drawing I finish my wife's hair and the background. With pen and ink the I add more details.

   Stage1
   The pencil setup.

   Stage 2
   With pen and ink I draw the 
   lines I need.
   I add the colors over these 
   lines..

    Stage 3
    With pastel I make the darker 
    and lighter parts.

   Stage 5
   Now I make with color pencil 
   the  details.
   With my surgeon knife I make 
   the lighter parts and hair.
   Pen and ink lines make the 
   dark hair of the dog

   Stage 6
   The pastel colors are now 
   placed 
   on the second dog (spoiler).

   Stage 7
   With gray and black pastels 
   I ad the darker parts.

   Stage 8
   With pencil I begin now with
   the hair and shades.

    Stage 9
    I make now with pen and ink
    the fine lines of the dogs.
    More detail

    Stage 10
    I draw the bone and with more 
    small lines everything gets one 
    complete drawing.
